Registration for Global Game Jam Online 2023 is open!

The University of Baltimore Simulation and Game Design is celebrating our twentieth anniversary.  To celebrate, we are hosting the Global Game Jam at both campuses!

Students, faculty, and members of the community, join University of Baltimore and uBalt at the Universities at Shady Grove to create games. The Global Game Jam is the largest simultaneous competitive/collaborative game creation event in the world, with tens of thousands of participants at hundreds of sites all over the world. Our sites generally draw about 50 participants. You don't need experience creating games or using digital tools, as submission of board games is allowed as well!

The event runs:

  • At the Universities at Shady Grove location, Monday, January 30, 2023 6:00 pm to Sunday, February 5, 2023 6:00pm.
  • At the Baltimore campus location (online-only), from Friday, February 3rd, 5pm, to Sunday, February 5th, 8pm.

Note that each location has a different start day. Global Game Jam will be a hybrid experience this year with in-person and online events at both campuses.  All jammers are welcome regardless of level of experience.

If you can't make the whole event, you are welcome to join us for the various events featuring special speakers and the closing events on Sunday where you'll get a chance to play the games and watch the contest!

Hi all,
I'm so sorry. In my previous invitation to a playtesting event, I mistakenly gave the incorrect time frame (which happens to be the time of last semester's class). This semester's class is the same day, but from 2-4:30pm.

If you made a trip out to join at the time I gave, I apologize profusely for wasting your time. If you have not headed out, the invite still stands for 2-4:30pm.

Hi,
I would like to give folks on the Simulation and Game Design mailing list the opportunity to influence games currently being created.

On Tuesday, April 9th, from 11am-1:30pm, second semester capstone students will have completed their third milestone. I would like to invite you to come to class that day, playtest their games, and give feedback.

Hi,

University of Baltimore's Simulation and Digital Entertainment program and Langsdale Library are hosting another board game social event on Friday, Sept. 30th, from 6-10pm in the Learning Commons 1st Floor Lobby (1415 Maryland Ave).

We have a sizable collection of board and vintage videogames in our game library, so we would like to take the opportunity to invite students and the community to make use of them.

This is just a reminder that Simulation and Digital Entertainment capstone presentations are next Tuesday, May 13th, from 6:30-8pm. Come to see the presentations in the auditorium or, if you're short on time, feel free to drop by any time afterward from 8-9pm to hang out and play the videogames. This coming January 24-26, University of Baltimore will be hosting the Global Game Jam.  This is a 48-hour team game development event with judges, prizes, snacks and an opening night guest speaker (Dave Inscore, an 18 year game industry veteran and founder of Big Huge Games).  Come with a group of friends or find a new group to join at the site.  This year's secret topic is given out on Friday evening and designers have until Sunday afternoon to produce a game.  We have a variety of software in our lab on site (see the web page), but you can
