Jessica Griggs - HR Internship
Monday was a big day for me! I was able to present the interview I have developed for hiring new nurses at the nurse supervisor meeting. The CNO and all of the nursing supervisors were there. I went over the format with them (the front page has instructions for how to interview, the middle two are the interview questions, and the last page is an initial impression inventory and scoring key). I explained to them that I used the answers I received from their SME surveys to come up with the questions and how having a standardized selection system across departments can help avoid litigation and improve selection of nurses by providing them with a rubric. I have received much praise on this from many of the people at the meeting, including the CNO. I hope that they will begin to implement this interview soon.
I also had my first encounter with EEOC this week. The hospital is being investigated for a complaint filed by a former employee declaring wrongful termination due to sex, race, and sexual harassment. The HR Director spoke with me about this, knowing I would like to understand, but she seemed utterly assured that we had nothing to worry about. She had his disciplinary action papers gathered as well as a timeline for events that lead up to his termination. I found all of this extremely interesting.
A few other things I've worked on this week: entering background checks, Birthday with the Boss (an informal luncheon with the CEO that HR puts on each month), taking and sorting through applications, as well as assisting with a few other projects in other departments.
