Internship: Tourism Research

The Maryland Office of Tourism Development (OTD) an office of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) has a semester long professional internship offering an exciting opportunity for students interested in statistics, market research, economic development, public policy, public administration, tourism and hospitality, or legislative policy to gain valuable experience in the dynamic industry of state tourism promotion.

The intern in this position will serve as a part-time (8-12 hours) contractual volunteer working with the OTD research manager while contributing to the office’s innovative research program.

Responsibilities vary, but may include: researching tourism to the State of Maryland; collecting, inputting and analyzing primary and secondary data; writing original content for talking points, fact sheets, newsletters, and memos; reviewing and editing reports; and assisting on special projects.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Enrollment in an institution of higher learning. Preferably with a concentration in statistics, public policy, hospitality management, public administration, or business.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
• Proven analytical skills.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and/or prioritize.  
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications a must.
• Knowledge of database management and data manipulation techniques a plus.
