Ed and Tom...hope all is well!  I thought that the two of you would like to share the following information regarding Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) certification with your students.

Currently, students and recent graduates who are within twelve months of graduating from a bachelor's or master's degree program can take the PHR or GPHR exam in the student/recent graduate category.

Effective 2011 (May-June 2011 testing window), students will no longer be eligible to take the exams without the required work experience, however, students will be able to take the exams once they have graduated and achieved the required number of years of demonstrated work experience that is required for the certification they wish to achieve and the degree they hold.

For more information, please refer the students to the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) web site at www.hrci.org or call HRCI at 866-898-4724 for a no cost certification handbook.

If there’s currently an interest in taking the PHR exam, recommend that the students consider forming a study group at UB using the textbook, Human Resource Management, (Mathis/Jackson-ISBN 0-324-07151-5)...they should be able to get reasonable used books online.

This fall, I’ll be teaching the CHRA PHR/SPHR certification preparation class for “professionals”.  For additional questions regarding “professional” or “student” certification preparation, suggest that the students visit the CHRA web site at www.chra.com or contact Christine Gosser, SPHR (CHRA Professional Certification Director) at [log in to unmask] or 410-215-7584.  Thanks!
