The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, under the leadership of
Desmond Runyan, a pediatrician, and Stephanie Block, a psychologist, is
interested in understanding the views of different groups of involved
professionals and the public
(pediatricians, attorneys, judges, social workers, child abuse experts,
parents, etc.) about what forms of discipline are acceptable BY AGE OF
THE CHILD.

E.g., if spanking with the hand on the buttocks is okay, is there an age
at which spanking is not yet okay? Questions such as these will allow
them to better examine what is and what is not considered too harsh or
even child abuse for the youngest children.

Therefore, to help them I would like to invite you to take approximately
10 MINUTES to follow the link below and answer (anonymously) a short
questionnaire they are anxious to have Attorneys complete.

They've promised to summarize findings for a report back to this
listserv.

The link is:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=0WH7uJvBOTs_2b0n546MHjPw_3d_3d

Your help is much appreciated. As you will see in the survey, this
effort has been approved by the IRB at UNC.

I greatly appreciate your help in furthering their research.

If you have any questions about this list or would like to be removed, please contact Shante Bullock at [log in to unmask]

Dear Professor Coupet,

Your email did not provide a proposal submission deadline. Kindly let me k=
now if proposals still are being considered. In addition, my interest in t=
his area focuses on the socio-political aspects of tribal sovereignty relat=
ive to Indian families and the well-being of Indian children, as well as th=

Families, Law, and Society

NYU Press is proud to announce a new book series that addresses the social,=
legal, and political challenges facing the modern family

Families, Law, and Society will publish innovative work exploring the socia=
l, legal, and political issues that lie at the center of conversations abou=
t the family in modern life. The 21st-century family is in dramatic transit=
ion, with the roles, needs, and interrelationships of its members under int=
ense scrutiny and flux. Debates over same sex versus heterosexual partnersh=
ips, cohabitation versus legal marriage, children conceived biologically ve=
rsus by artificial reproductive technology are just a few of the indicators=
that today=92s families are changing faster than the laws and policies tha=
t regulate them.

The series aims to address the wide range of issues that inform and influen=
ce family law in both the private realm (e.g., divorce, adoption, marriage)=
and public domain (e.g., welfare, child abuse, juvenile justice). While in=
terdisciplinary research is encouraged, the series editor will strive to en=
sure that all books published in Families, Law, and Society consider the in=
terrelationship between family and law, and critically examine the social a=
nd cultural changes in the lived realities of families and the relationship=
 between families and the law.

Edited by one of the academy=92s leading experts on family law, the series =
will serve as a platform for scholars publishing provocative and timely wor=
ks in an all-important public policy arena that has thus far not garnered t=
he attention it merits.

Series Editor:

Nancy Dowd is the David Levin Chair in Family Law and Director of the Cente=
r on Children and Families at the University of Florida Levin College of La=
w. An active scholar in family law, feminist, and critical theory, she is t=
he author of three books from NYU Press: In Defense of Single Parent Famili=
es, Redefining Fatherhood, and (with Michele Jacobs) Feminist Legal Theory:=
An Anti-Essentialist Reader. NYUP will publish her fourth book, The Man Qu=
estion: Feminist Jurisprudence, Masculinities, and the Law, in the fall of =
2010.

Submission guidelines: Submissions should take the form of a 3-5 page propo=
sal outlining the intent and scope of the project, its merits in comparison=
to existing texts, and the audience it is designed to reach. You should al=
so include a detailed Table of Contents, 2-3 sample chapters or articles, a=
nd a current copy of your curriculum vitae.
