Seeking I/O Psychology Students!

Build Better Government from the Inside-Out

Are you an I/O psychology student looking for an opportunity to do good research in the real world? Are you looking to step into public service and work at a fast-paced 21st century agency? Do you have the desire to impact the lives of everyday American families? If so, we have the opportunity for you!

About the CFPB

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (Dodd-Frank Act) established the consumer bureau.  The central mission of the CFPB is to make markets for consumer financial products and services work for Americans — whether they are applying for a mortgage, choosing among credit cards, or using any number of other consumer financial products.

The Organizational Development and Effectiveness (ODE) team, located within the Office of Human Capital (OHC), is realizing our mission by developing strategies that build better organizations. To do so, it contributes to the success of our agency by: creating candidate and employee assessments; building competency models; consulting on organizational structure and workforce planning; and designing, implementing and analyzing employee surveys, and other research tools.

The Impact You’ll Have

As a professional support to our team of psychologists, you will directly impact our mission by supporting the assessment team with developing candidate assessment tools such as work simulations and occupational questionnaires and scheduling and administering these tools. Likely, you will be responsible for Subject Matter Expert (SME) prep including but not limited to: coordinating training, providing appropriate tools, and coding and capturing data. You will also conduct research using real datasets to draw conclusions that help continually improve OHC’s service offerings.  To be successful, you must be detailed oriented and collaborate with OHC staff and stakeholders throughout the bureau to administer and monitor all aspects of the assessment.

And – you’ll do all of this while working within one of the most ground-breaking bureaus in federal government.

What You’ll Get

Working in the trenches with some of the Federal government’s finest is just the beginning.  Expand your professional network and build lasting relationships you can tap into in the future. Gain exposure to seasoned I/O psychologists working at the CFPB and build relationships with well-respected leaders in the federal I/O community. Further cement your research knowledge with hands on exposure to a variety of projects and engagements, collaborating with various internal CFPB stakeholders. Make your mark in history by applying classroom skills and knowledge at a new agency, and create a lasting impact for generations to come.

What We’re Looking For

No matter your background, you must possess a relentless commitment to professional and organizational excellence.  Strong analytical skills are a must, as well as the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.   Successful candidates will have experience at project planning and demonstrate the ability to triage questions and issues so that the most appropriate staff member can answer them.  Further, you will also display entrepreneurial spirit and will enable efficient execution with a customer-oriented approach. This is a great opportunity for students looking for more real-world research experience before graduating, or those experienced post-grads seeking out the next step in their career.
