Abstract:

NASA’s Johnson Space Center has been coordinating NASA’s Astronaut Selection Program since the first group of Space Shuttle Astronauts were selected in 1978. Human spaceflight is at an exciting juncture—with several new vehicles in development, and planned journeys back to the Moon and on to Mars, Astronaut will continue to play a leading role in exploring the solar system. This presentation will provide a high level overview of the selection process, as well as share both the history and future plans for NASA’s Astronaut Selection Program.

Speaker Bio:

Anne Roemer is the Deputy Director of the Human Resources Office for NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC), and the Manager of NASA’s Astronaut Selection Office. Most recently, she has completed a one year detail to NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., where she has served as the Deputy Manager for the Human Capital Transformation Project—a project aimed at aligning human capital services functionally across the entire Agency. She joined NASA in 2000 as a Presidential Management Fellow after completing her Master’s degree in International Administration from the University of Denver.
